This week, I was listening to a podcast and the guest further reinforced the importance of developing your personal brand and what you want to be known for. As an individual who loves business, the people aspect of it (HR) and marketing, I have decided to create a theme around the three resources I will share each week. The theme that I will focus on is Human Resources, Leadership and marketing. Not only will this help me develop my brand but it will also create a structure that makes it easier for me to research and better understand those areas. By developing my understanding of those areas, I believe this will allow me to better partner with businesses as a consultant because I will learn the language that will aide me in understanding their business and how I can best create a plan to support them!
This week, my favourite resources include:
1. Marketing School Podcast- "How to Get People to Respond to Your Emails- Episode 1170 "
One of the best things that I love about this podcast is Neil and Eric give daily Marketing tips in five to ten minutes or less. This episode is applicable to marketers, communications teams and even HR professionals. When you are trying to engage busy individuals and increase response rates, it is important to personalize the email while making it short and to the point.
2. Simon Sinek's article on "How having the right kind of rival can help you thrive in a changing world"
If you haven't discovered Simon Sinek's work, I would highly recommend it because he studies how 'the greatest leaders and organizations think, act and communicate'. Within this article, the biggest thing that resonated with me is how a leader can start by identifying a Worthy competitor and using them as an inspiration to take on an attitude of improvement. How? Because it requires the leader to evaluate their decision making process and how they should best allocate their resources.
3. Daniel Nolan's article - "The Most Important Skill for the Future is Change Agility"
This is a great read for human resources professionals, hiring managers and leaders because the rate in a work place is changing due to technological advancements is going to impact the traits that employers should focus on when they are developing the hiring process and training program. Technical skills alone should not be the biggest influence on a hiring decision. Instead, attributes of change agility-ability to adapt to change, having a growth mindset, the willingness to embrace failure and willingness to ask questions should have an equal or greater influence on a hiring decision. How can the leader help with this? By creating a psychologically safe environment and to model the desired behaviours.
